Bituminous joint sealing kit (L)
For use with rubberised Plygene guttering systems.

PART NUMBER LIS FOR CONCRETE AND OTHER TYPES OF GUTTERS
Additional requirements: 6.5mm masonry drill bit(s) or 3.5mm HS drill bits.
Note: For cast iron gutters, a 3.7mm HS drill bit is recommended.

When making joints in rubberised Plygene Gutterline, it is essential that a watertight seal is created between all layers and the existing gutter. This is to prevent water from seeping between and underneath the rubberised Plygene and the existing gutter. To create a watertight seal, prepare the gutter and fit the joint sealing kit as described below.
First, clean the gutter down to its original base material and ensure the concrete is level right across the gutter (grind out irregularities if necessary) at the point where the kit is to be fitted. Paint this area with high-penetration bitumen primer and allow to dry (top left illustration).

Place a bituminous strip across the gutter over the area already prepared and painted with high-penetration bitumen primer. On top of this strip, place one end of the rubberised Plygene and then place another bituminous strip on its upper surface.
Place the end of the Plygene to be joined on top of the tape and place another bituminous strip on its upper surface. Place the punched black polyester coated steel strip on top of all the layers and – using it as a guide – carefully drill right through the sandwich and into the gutter below (bottom left illustration).
It’s important to drill, plug and complete each fixing before starting on the next one. For concrete or similar gutters insert plastic plugs in the holes and tap them well down, before inserting and partially tightening self-tapping screws.

The first fixing must be made at the rear corner.

Subsequent fixings working firstly towards the front and then up the back.

If the gutter is flat across the sole, this must be fixed and sealed first before fixing and sealing up the sides (bottom right illustration).
Use heat to help blend and compress the bitumen together as the screws are fully tightened down. When screwing the whole sandwich down to the gutter base, hot air helps to soften the bitumen and compress the sandwich together (bottom right illustration).
As the screws are tightened make sure the bituminous strips and all surfaces are in contact with each other.

This kit comprises:

• 3 x 43mm bituminous strips
• 1 x 50mm punched black polyester coated steel strip
• Plugs
• Self-tapping screws and washers

Drilling bits and bitumen high-penetration primer aren’t included in this kit but are available to order.
