A failing gutter system and an awkward structural obstacle were no match for Plygene® gutter lining at this Dorset industrial unit.
MC Hanlon Roofing is a family-run business with a combined experience of over 100 years in the industrial roofing and cladding industry. They cover Dorset, Hampshire, Somerset, Surrey and Wiltshire, offering new-build, refurbishment and repair and maintenance services. The existing gutters on this industrial unit at Bailie Gate Industrial Estate, Bridge Street, Dorset, were deteriorating and failing, causing water ingress into the building. The end of the gutter runs also presented a structural complication – steel beams were positioned directly at the point where weir overflows would typically be installed, making a standard installation approach unworkable.
MC Hanlon specified Plygene® gutter lining, a system their operatives have been trained and experienced in installing for over 15 years. Covering 73 linear metres, Plygene® was installed directly over the failing gutters, eliminating the need for full gutter replacement, minimising disruption to the building and its occupants and keeping the project both cost-effective and efficient.
To overcome the structural challenge posed by the steel beams, MC Hanlon fabricated bespoke weir overflows on site, cutting away a section of cladding and steelwork to create the required drainage solution. Sharmans provided on-site technical support throughout, advising on the correct fixing of Linear Retention Plates along the gutter runs.
The installation resolved the water ingress issue and delivered a long-term, guaranteed solution for the building owner. The Plygene® system carries a 25-year guarantee, which the client was particularly receptive to.
